For over 40 years, Southern Exposure Photography has documented families visiting our beautiful mountain town of Red River, New Mexico. One of the most common things we hear from families is, “This is the only time we’re all together.” Life gets busy once everyone heads back home, and for many families, vacations in the mountains become one of the rare opportunities to truly reconnect.
We understand just how important that time together is.
Our goal is to create more than just family photos — we create a fun mountain experience your family will genuinely enjoy. We photograph quickly and efficiently while keeping the session relaxed, entertaining, and stress-free for everyone involved. Over the years, many families have told us their photo session ended up being one of their favorite parts of the trip — even better than rafting, fishing, or off-roading.
Family portraits are one of the few activities everyone can participate in together, from grandparents to young kids. Long after the vacation is over, your photographs become the one thing you can take home and place on your walls that truly captures your family enjoying the mountains together in Red River, Angel Fire, and the Enchanted Circle.

Our photo session was wonderful and I appreciated all the time, effort, and energy that Kyle exerted to assure getting great shots of my family all the while making the session a fun experience. We come out to Red River every year for a little family reunion and always want pictures. Kyle has taken the big group of us and turned us all into beautiful models for our portraits! We came back out and did some individual family photos and I'm convinced he's worth the trip just for this! The process is easy, the emails are detailed and you feel communicated with and your photographer is present. Day of the shoot, Kyle is impeccable with his eye for details, making sure all of us look our best, positioned just right, and our best smiles are made. All 5 of my kids love him and we always leave him excited for the outcome. We've had lots of photos and lots of disappointments. I have never had someone sit there and make us turn, fix our hair, not give crazy eyes, or just get teenagers in general to enjoy themselves as much as they do with him. Absolutely the best you could possibly want in a photographer and you even get your prints right there! Happy to display these on our walls.

Some of the most meaningful photos happen right at your cabin or vacation home with the mountains surrounding you. For larger families or groups, having us come to your location can make things much easier and more comfortable than moving everyone across town for photos.

We pride ourselves with being print artist, in the way that we provide our customers with quality products that be preserved for generations. We hate when people tell us that they still have the photos from their last session on the flashdrive in the junk drawer.
